Paradise Valley

Beautiful Paradise Valley |
I don’t want to
sound way more enthusiastic than I should generally be but this place is really
a thing of beauty and I couldn’t believe my eyes when I first saw it,
especially couldn’t believe that this place, a real oasis is in fact in
Morocco. The Valley, which is located in the southern part of the country,
pretty close to Agadir the Southernmost big city of the country is often
included in off-the-beaten-track excursions and even daily tours. Which is
unfortunate because it would be a shame to have tourism conquer this almost
untouched little paradise.
The place is a
beautiful lake being part of the Tamraght River and it’s all situated in the
middle of a forest with picturesque rocks, waterfalls, palm-lined gorges and
natural glides surrounding the lake area. Paradise Valley is considered to have
healing qualities, since a couple –earlier being diagnosed with terminal
illness- spent a month here then returned back home being absolutely healthy!
This oasis is also very popular in the circle of hippies and nature lovers and
it’s along a well-used trekking route that starts from Aourir.
You can freely
bathe and swim in the beautifully turquoise water of the lakes, watch the
waterfalls from there or you can even slide in the water on the natural slide,
which is great fun.
Things to consider: As locals also come
here, though and some may even use this water for drinking, please make sure
not to use soap or other chemicals in the water. If you are a woman, please be careful with the
bathing around local men and make sure you are wearing something more than a
bikini.
How to get there:
Paradise Valley is only about 20 km North of
Agadir the biggest city in the South of Morocco. There are daily bus tours here
and you can even hire a mule to trek the nearby lands. The walking trail is
officially 2, 7 km long and there are several places here excellent for
wild-camping, only make sure you won’t get caught, as sleeping under the stars
is considered an illegal activity and you can be fined if the police finds you
sleeping in a tent out in the wild. You can also rent a car but make sure you get
a local guide with you, or make sure you know the directions well.
