The Top 10 Natural Wonders of Morocco
Part 3
Legzira Wild Beach
|
The beautiful Legzira beach from multiple aspects |
UPDATE: Unfortunately the most beautiful formation you can see above is no more. It just got ruined by the ocean. But all the rest of the beautiful rocks are still standing and will stand for thousands of years to come
If you are fond
of wild, rocky beaches, then you shoudn't miss out on visiting the absolutely unique gigantic formation of rocks located
on the Legzira beach in Morocco: another sight not typically associated with
the country. Although there is especially one rock that’s being photographed
here, in reality there is much more to the eye: the beach is 8 km long, and
there are plenty of beautiful larger-than-life rocks to see over here.
Apart from the one mostly photographed there are altogether five
huge stone arches here, but these can only be really seen in time of low-tide and some you would need to actually climb to get to the next one, so be careful. I remember the suprise of first seeing Legzira, but in reality this natural wonder is not an unknown attraction though: it’s listed on several lists on the world’s top naturaé attractions and it’s also one of the world’s best 40 beaches. The Legzira beach itself
is also a very popular spot for paragliders and surfers often come here too. As the place is not a typical tourist place be prepared not to find most amenities that are associated with tourism over here yet ( though I've just heard they are building something very near to it to better accommodate the tourists there is not enough information on it for me to include right now)
The
nearby villages all have hostels for the tourists, but many people choose wild
camping, which is in fact illegal in Morocco, so if you really are determined
to do it, pitch tent after sunset and make sure you clear it off around 8 am.
How to get there:
Legzira is located down in the far South, so first you would need to get to Agadir, to be in its vicinity.
The beach is located
between the villages of Mirleft and Sidi Ifni, about 10 km away from the
latter. The biggest town nearby is
Agadir, so you are likely to arrive from there and from then on you can choose
between the buses of CTM or Supratours, or just catch a local bus to Tiznit.
Alternatively
you can also arrange this with a local taxi driver who will take you to Tiznit.
You can arrange a collective taxi if you head to Batwaar square in Agadir which
is a large taxi station where you should get a seat for around 3.5 EUR. Agadir- Tiznit is about an hour long journey.
From Tiznit catch a local bus to Sidi Ifni (ticket costs around 1.5 EUR) and
get off at Mirleft as this is closer to Legzira than Sidi Ifni.
