The beautiful Oualidia |
Oualidia – the Moroccan Miami
Being in
Oualidia, it feels like you somehow got lost on the way and accidentally got to
the Caribbean! It is no big words that Oualidia is Morocco’s Miami: the two
cities have lots of similarities as for their geographical settings and
Oualidia has the same potential to become an exquisite holiday – resort city as
its American predecessor did that before. Located at the Westernmost shores of
Morocco,
Oualidia is gifted with a warm ocean climate, which basically means
that the sky and the sea is always blue over here: some smart investors already
smelled out the huge business possibilities over here and have built exquisite
resorts and there is a growing number of elegant villas, belonging mostly to
the wealthier people of the Northern lying cities of the country especially
from Casablanca, Fez and Marrakech.
But let’s say a
few more words on the exceptional location of Oualidia: the city has a
beautiful bay which embraces a large peninsula alongside an island, which also
creates a beautiful and picturesque lagoon. The place is also gifted with
beautiful golden sand and its natural breakwater system makes it just perfect
for a good swim or soak.
Oualidia is a
famous winter and spring-time stopover place for lots of migrating birds, out
of which the pink flamingos make the most beautiful view!
As an addition,
Oualidia is full of fish and oyster restaurants offering a great variety of the
locally caught fishes. Although Oualidia is meant as an attraction as a whole
and its partly manmade, I chose to include it on this list simply for its
God-given natural beauty which really makes this place outstanding. If you are
looking for the atmosphere and feel of the Caribbean, you should definitely get
here.
Oualidia is easily reachable from most of the
big cities as it’s between Casablanca and Essaouira and it's pretty close to Marrakech too– the most popular holiday
resort for those living in this area, being some of the most populated full of beautiful cities along the shoreline.
The closest city to Oualidia is the
beautiful historical El Jadida which has good train and bus connections with
both Casa and Marrakech. From El Jadida, Oualidia is about 1-1, 5 hours by bus
or by rented car.
