Akchour is an incredible place

The Akchour Cascades and the Point de Dieu natural rock bridge

This time I'd like to introduce you to a real natural wonder, a place which is lesser known in the world but it's all the worth to visit, especially if you are into nature and hiking. Let me represent you to Akchour, Morocco.

Situated at the Northern part of Morocco, close to the very peak that’s almost touching Spain, Akchour is a cornucopia of beautiful natural attractions, with the most outstanding site being its Point de Dieu, the natural stone bridge that took centuries to form. With Akchour being part of the Talassemtane National Park situated deep in the mountains it is a rare attraction that makes a growing number of tourists coming here and see its natural wonders for themselves.

The Akchour area is right in the middle of a lovely forest and it’s a real oasis, especially during the hot summer days: it’s literally stuffed with scenic lakes, springs and natural green-blue pools some of which are located right under the rocks are really great for swimming or having a refreshing soak especially in the summer, when the place is often visited as a site for retreat from the extreme heat.

Akchour also has its very own waterfall. As an extra, you can also catch glimpse of the local mountain monkeys who are actually curious, therefore they are easy to notice. The place is becoming a real attraction for nature lovers, wild campers and campers who arrive here from all around the world. Akchour is also a fantastic place for hikers and climbers and during the weekend lots of locals go there to do an outdoor barbecue.

The closest city to Akchour is Tetouan and there are regional buses and also organized tours going to Akchour multiple times a week. Akchour is also only about 20-30 km from Chefchaouen one of the key attractions of Morocco for its strikingly blue houses. There are local buses going from Chefchaouen to Oued Laou which is only 3 km from Akchour.

By far the easiest way to get to Achkour is to pre-arrange your trip with a cab driver to take you there and he can also pick you up at an arranged time as there is no accommodation in this area.
