The Top 10 Most Beautiful Beaches in Morocco

Quemado Beach - Al Hoceima
Al Hoceima is
one of the luckiest towns on Earth. It’s surrounded by some of the most
spectacular beaches of the Mediterranean and therefore it would be well worth
for a Top Ten Beaches article on its own (I will do one, I do love beautiful
beaches). The Northern Moroccan city lies in an especially beautiful area,
stacked with sandy and rocky beaches likewise giving chance for lots of
watersports, with the rocks and the crystal clear water also making it just the
perfect place for scuba diving.
Al Hoceima is one
of the most popular beach resort towns in Morocco and like most Moroccan beach
towns it’s still low key. Its main hotel is the Mohammed V that you can also
see on the photo, situated right on the beach while other projects are still
under development. But that’s what I love about Morocco, that it’s so far
avoided by the mass tourism.
As I have
written above, this city has several beautiful beaches, but Quemado Beach is
one of the most beautiful out of all of them. It’s enough to take a look at the
main photo I have posted to see why: it has a lovely picturesque bay with part
of the city looking down on it on top of the rocks. Quemado beach has great
rocky parts but those who prefer the sand can stay on the sandy shore. The
water is mild and it’s very relaxed. The city is best to visit between May and
end of September. The beach is not too crowded by European standards but it’s
definitely more touristic than most beaches which are represented here. Luckily
the city has an amazing supply of beaches, so you can easily switch from one to
the other.
Brief History:
Like most
Northern cities Al Hoceima, originally a fishing village was also in Spanish
hands from its founding that happened in approximately 1925 and was under
Spanish rule until 1956. From it’s Spanish name Villa Alhucemas, its name had
been changed to Al Hoceima. The city has about 100.000 inhabitants and it’s the
second biggest port city in Northern Africa. Playa Quemado has historical
importance too as this is the place where the General Sanjurjo first landed in
1925 before starting to build the city. The Spanish heritage today shows in the
town having a Spanish international school.

Getting there:
Al Hoceima has its
own international airport called Cherif Al Idrissi that welcomes visitors and
those visiting back home all year long. Also, the city is quite close to
Tangier, it only takes a few hours to get there by bus. Alternatively Nador the
other big city in the region is also only around 3 hours away.
Accommodation: If you look for a beach resort hotel then
the brand new
Mercure
Quemado is the best choice for you. It has moderate prices and looks really
great. The town also has plenty of motels and guest rooms for those who would
like to get closer to Moroccan culture or who are on a budget.
Places to visit: Al Hoceima has some
very unique miniature islands and peninsulas which are still owned by the
Spanish as far as I’m concerned. One of them can be very well seen from the
shores. I don’t think they can be visited though, unless you try to do it on
your own. And of course all the rest of the beautiful beaches near the city are
well worth visiting.

One mini island I was mentioning. There are peninsulas like this too.
An utterly unique sight. This island belongs to Span |
I hope you liked this post. Please continue reading and comment, comment, comment. Ask me, make a remark and tell me if you have ever been to Al Hoceima or Morocco itself.
