The Dam of Bin El Ouidane

Looking at the scenic views of blue water, green islands and mountains, the area of the Dam of Bin El Ouidane looks absolutely beautiful. With this view further being helped by manmade attractions such as the beautiful Hotel Chems du Lac Bin El Ouidane, looking at the pictures taken of this place makes me want to go there instantly.

To say a few words on the dam itself and its purpose, it’s an arch-dam that was constructed from 1949 until 1953 with the purpose of its water used for power production and for it to also supply the region with water.

Today, its water helps to supply a total of 65 500 hectare territory. As for its growing importance with respect to sports and tourism, the Dam of Bin Ouidane is slowly and silently growing out to become one of the very centers of sports and adventure tourism. The town of Bin El Ouidane gives place to the Morocco Adventure Kayak School, which makes the area increasingly popular for rafters and kayakers too. Raft tours are often held along the picturesque Ahansal river gorge and these are also available for tourists from all around the world. The number of visitors here is therefore steadily growing, thanks to the picturesque landscape and the natural gifts of the area, which also makes it great for hikers, birdwatchers and nature lovers. The area of the town Bin El Ouidan also has a few nice campings.

As for standard tourism, the quality hotel, Hotel Chems, gifted with an astonishingly beautiful location is only one of the few which are attracting a growing number of nature lovers who would like to spend a few relaxed days enjoying this charming green landscape for a few days.

The dam and the huge lake is located a few hours from the city of Beni Mellal which has direct highway connection with Casablanca and further road connections with Marrakech, so these are the two cities from where you can get there the easiest.

From Beni Mellal, you have the choice to take a local bus, or arrange prices to get in a shared cab heading to the region. Take a cab heading to the village of Bin El Ouidane or towards Azilal as that’s the road that literally goes right next to the dam.
